Driver’s License Acquisition Procedure

1Pre-Test Traffic Safety Education

  • Required Documents : ID Card
  • Fee : Free
Notice

Test Sites in Chuncheon, Gangneung, Taebaek, Chungju, Gwangyang, and Mungyeong do not have physical check-up centers. Please have your physical check-up at a nearby hospital.

2Physical Check-up

  • Required Documents : Application Form, ID Card
  • Fee : Based on taking the physical check-up at test site
    - 1st Class(Large/Special) : KRW 7,000
    - Other Licenses : KRW 6,000

3Written Test Registration

  • Required Documents : Application Form, ID Card, three color photographs taken within the past six months (3.5×4.5cm)
  • Fee : (based on taking the physical check-up at test site)
    - 1st Class, 2nd Class : KRW 10,000
    - Motorized Bicycle : KRW 8,000
Notice

Pre-Test Traffic Safety Education (1 hour) must be completed prior to Written Test Registration.

4Written Test

  • Pass Criteria : 1st Class : 70 points or higher
    2nd Class : 60 points or higher
  • Available Test Languages : Korean, English, Chinese, Vietnamese
  • Eligibility : 19 years of age or older (For 1st Class(Large) and 1st Class(Special) : Must have held a 1st or 2nd Class(Ordinary) License for at least one year.)

5Practical Test Registration

  • Required Documents : Application Form, ID Card
  • Fee
    - 1st Class, 2nd Class(Ordinary) : KRW 25,000
    - 1st Class(Large/Special) : KRW 25,000
    - 2nd Class(Small) : KRW 14,000
    - Motorized Bicycle : KRW 10,000

6Practical Test

  • Pass Criteria
    - 1st Class(Large), 1st Class(Ordinary),
    2nd Class(Ordinary) : 80 points or higher
    - 1st Class(Special), 2nd Class(Small),
    2nd Class Motorized Bicycle : 90 points or higher

Retake available three days after the date of failure

7Issuance of Learner’s Permit

  • Required Documents : Application Form, ID Card
  • Fee : KRW 4,000

8On-Road Test Registration

  • Required Documents : Application Form (with Learner's Permit attached), ID Card
  • Fee : KRW 30,000

9On-Road Test

  • Pass Criteria : 70 points or higher

Retake available three days after the date of failure

10Issuance of Driver's License

  • Required Documents : Application Form with final pass result, ID Card, one color photograph taken within the past six months (3.5×4.5cm)
  • Fee : Mobile IC (Korean/English) : KRW 15,000 / Standard (Korean/English) : KRW 10,000

Types of Driver’s Licenses

  • 1st Class(Large), 1st Class(Special) (Large Trailer, Small Trailer, Wrecker)
  • 1st Class(Ordinary) (Automatic, Manual), 2nd Class(Ordinary) (Automatic, Manual), 2nd Class(Small), 2nd Class Motorized Bicycle
